Let's address the elephant in the room

This is just a quick update to address my inactivity here. What's going on? Well, quite simply, real life happened.

As much as I'd like to, I don't make a living doing this. It's something of a dream for me to one day support myself with some form of activism. Making this blog an additional source of income would be a start, but even that will take time, especially with my inactivity here. Because of that, I need an actual job. In order to get one, I went back to school late last year, and in March of this year, I began working part time on the side. Recently, I actually got a job on my field for the summer, meaning, for the first time in my life, I can actually support myself with my own work. Exiting times for me, but it also limits my free time.

I started this blog when I was unemployed. I was spending most of my time in my apartment, reading about what's going on in the world and watching YouTube videos, most of which had something to do with politics or various social issues. And since I happen to have pretty strong opinions on various issues, I wanted to express them, largely inspired by the youtubers I watched. I did try filming videos, but found pretty quickly that wasn't made for me, so I ultimately chose blogging as my outlet.

When I was unemployed, it was easy to post regularly. Posting something once or twice a week was normal. At one point I made three posts within three days. But currently that's not possible. The thing is, writing takes time, usually many hours and I simply don't have as much time to write these posts, as I used to. And even if I have free time in my hands, I really don't have the motivation to start writing for the same reason. This is the first time in my life I'm actually working full time, making enough money to support myself. This is a new situation in my life and I'm still adjusting to it.

While I've been inactive, I've still had ideas. The recent post I made in Finnish was about the topic of religious freedom, which I've talked in the past. I was planning on writing about it in English as well, but never got around to doing it. There have recently been new developments in Finnish politics, which I've been wanting to write about. There have also been developments regarding conscription, some of it actually being positive for once. And that's kinda frustrating: I have multiple ideas I could write about, but I simply don't have the energy or motivation to actually do so.

So that's it for now. I'm currently in a new situation in my life and I'm still adjusting to it. I hope I can get back to posting more frequently soon, but I'm not promising anything. In the mean time, you can still follow me on Twitter, as I'm still active there.

Finland to suspend extradition treaty with Hong Kong

Finnish conscription pt.3: recruitment, an obstacle for change

While I said in my previous post that I would leave this topic alone for a while, there has been a change of plans. Next week, November 20-26, War Resister's International organizes The International Week of Action Against Militarization of Youth. Since I consider myself as an anti-militarist, I decided to take a head start on the campaign and talk about one more problem about Finnish conscription: the draft process itself.
